Highlights from the first Pain & Palliative Workshop for Ayurveda Doctors

The Itoozhi Ayurveda Campus successfully hosted its 1st Pain & Palliative Care Workshop on Sunday, 27 April 2025, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The full-day workshop brought together Ayurveda physicians, postgraduate scholars, and healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge and explore integrative approaches to pain and palliative care.

The scientific session opened with a keynote presentation by Dr. V C Raveendran, Medical Director, Malabar Cancer Care Society, Kannur, who spoke on the Importance of Pain & Palliative Care. His address set the tone for the day, underlining the urgent need for holistic and compassionate support in chronic and terminal care.

This was followed by a session on An Introduction to Pain and Palliative Care in Ayurveda by Dr. K B Gayathri MS (Ayu), Specialist Consultant, Shalya Tantra Department, Itoozhi Ayurveda, highlighting how Ayurvedic principles can effectively complement palliative practices.

The morning concluded with Prof. R Arul Murugan, Vice Principal, AKG Memorial Co-operative College of Nursing, Kannur, who offered practical insights into Home Care Management, sharing experiences and protocols that caregivers can adopt for effective patient support.

Post-lunch, Dr. Remya Vijayan, Associate Professor, Dept. of Panchakarma, Govt Ayurveda College, Thripunithura, delivered a session on An Integrated Approach to Palliative Care, emphasising synergy between Ayurveda and modern healthcare practices.

The day ended with an engaging panel discussion, where speakers and participants reflected on challenges, best practices, and the evolving role of Ayurveda in palliative care.

The workshop stood out for its interactive and multidisciplinary approach. Each presentation provided practical knowledge and inspired deeper commitment to compassionate care. With this first step, Itoozhi Ayurveda has laid a strong foundation to continue knowledge-sharing initiatives in this crucial field, reaffirming its mission to extend holistic healthcare for patients, families, and communities.
