The Madras Engineer Group (MEG) and Centre, Bengaluru, of the Indian Army has collaborated with the Itoozhi Illam Ayurveda Foundation Charitable Trust, Kannur, to expand Ayurveda-based treatment and wellness facilities for personnel and beneficiaries of the establishment.
The collaboration was formalised through an exchange between Col D Samant, Commanding Officer, Depo Battalion, MEG & Centre, and Dr. Itoozhi Unnikrishnan Namboothiri, Managing Trustee of Itoozhi Illam Ayurveda Foundation. The initiative marks a significant step towards integrating traditional Ayurvedic healthcare and wellness services into the healthcare facilities available at the MEG & Centre.
As the first phase of the collaboration, an Ayurveda Wellness Centre has been established at MEG & Centre, Bengaluru.
The centre was inaugurated on August 21 by Mrs Mridula Thakur, Senior FWO, in the presence of Commandant Brigadier Ajay Singh Thakur and other dignitaries.
The Wellness Centre will provide a range of specialised Ayurvedic healthcare and wellness services, including Panchakarma, sports medicine, neuro-rehabilitation, joint-care treatment, management of lifestyle diseases, ophthalmic care, ENT treatment, women’s healthcare, geriatric care and stress-management therapies.
The centre will also extend support to the treatment and rehabilitation needs of children with special needs, strengthening the range of specialised care and therapeutic services available to beneficiaries. The integration of Ayurveda-based therapies with rehabilitation approaches is expected to provide additional support for children requiring long-term care and developmental assistance.
Dr. Itoozhi Unnikrishna Namboothiri, Chief Advisory Panel member of the Wellness Centre, said the facility has been designed to provide comprehensive Ayurveda-based healthcare and wellness support to serving personnel and beneficiaries. He added that the services of the centre would be further expanded six months after its commencement.
The collaboration between MEG & Centre and Itoozhi Illam Ayurveda Foundation is expected to strengthen the availability of holistic and preventive healthcare services, while promoting the integration of traditional Ayurvedic practices with contemporary wellness and rehabilitation approaches. The initiative also seeks to create a broader healthcare support system for personnel, their families and beneficiaries, including children with special needs.
