Oushadha Kanji (Medicated Porridge) Project in Mayyil kerala

When Food itself becomes Therapeutic and Nutritional

The Itoozhi Ayurveda Illam Trust’s Oushadha Kanji project, launched in 2012, is a unique initiative that marries tradition with health, aiming to introduce the benefits of Ayurveda to young minds through nutrition. This project, currently implemented at the ALP School in Mayyil, serves a traditional Ayurvedic porridge, known as Oushadha Kanji, to 400 school children during the monsoon season, aligning with the Malayalam month of Karkkidakom.

You can definitely help

Help us take Oushadha Kanji to more children and thus join the movement to create a healthy nation. Your donations and volunteering will help us immensely.

In Ayurveda, the concept of “Food as Medicine” is a cornerstone, and the Oushadha Kanji project beautifully encapsulates this philosophy. By introducing children to this traditional diet, the project not only nourishes their bodies but also educates them on the importance of dietary practices that support overall health and well-being.

This early exposure to the principles of Ayurveda helps inculcate healthy eating habits that can last a lifetime.

The success of this project at ALP School has inspired plans to extend it across all schools in Kannur district, in consultation with district administration authorities. This expansion reflects a broader vision of integrating Ayurveda into daily life, especially for the younger generation, ensuring that the wisdom of ancient practices continues to thrive in modern times.

Through the Oushadha Kanji project, Itoozhi Ayurveda Illam Trust is making a lasting impact on community health, one bowl of porridge at a time.
